Re: Discover Western huge!

I smell some 'spin' here. I haven't heard much positive news regarding the incoming application numbers or significant increased interest at events like the Discover Westerns. I hope you're right and I'm wrong.

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff

I'm not saying moving construction money to operations funding isn't the only option available, it might be unfortunately. But it's so d@M^ risky. That campus needs facility dollars badly. Go turn on the tap water in Currens Hall... it's safe, but it's not pleasant looking. So by deferring construct...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff

I hate to say it, but WIU belongs in that category with those institutions. ALL state universities are feeling the pinch right now, but Western is certainly in that "the coffers are about empty" category. While we may not be the worst off, we're gaining ground. There's a pretty common sent...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff

I'm a local Macomb resident, businessman, and UIUC alumni, and I guess I just don't see much benefit for either institution. Many around UIUC lament that their Board has to encompass people with interest in UIS and UIC. The organizational chart within the U of I system is wrought with conflict; some...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff

I believe WIU should be part of the U of I system, and be niched as the "Liberal Arts " school and marketed as such. Might not be as big, but could survive. I'm interested in why you believe WIU should be part of the U of I system. I can't seem to come up with any reason this would make s...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff

I don't think anyone would be happy if the other schools folded into the U of I system... help me understand that one. Maybe the fiscal hawks would be eying some administrative savings, but I don't see much benefit for anyone... U of I or the directionals. Interested to hear why people think that wo...

Re: Assistant Coaches???

Very exciting! If Henderson can land some big, fast athletes from OK, TX, and LA, that will be absolutely huge for this program moving forward. LN57 - I know staffs typically divide up recruiting "areas" and it sounds like we've got some coaches with ties to some real recruiting "hot ...

Re: Fisher named as head coach

Did this thread really stoop tocomparing Nick Saban and Bill Belichick to Tyler yelk lol. That's like saying I'm a bad driver sometimes because I drive aggressively. But you know who else drove aggressively?!?! Dale Earnhardt so I'm pretty much going to be the second coming of the intimidator. This...

Re: Fisher named as head coach

I'm done with the Yelk v. Fisher debate; it's all Faulkner-esque (sound and fury signifying nothing). Fisher is here and I'm excited to have him. Looking forward to seeing what staff he was able to put together and what his first recruiting class looks like. GO 'NECKS.

Re: Fisher named as head coach

One other thing -- I just want to give 2 examples of 2 coaches, and I know there are MANY more, that also are not "personable" or "sociable" that do alright for their respective teams and programs. Bill Belichick and Nick Saban. 'Nuff said. Wins put people in seats, advertisement...
