Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
Now that Brad is gone, every VP and the Chief of Staff are tenured. They need to be offered a full time teaching job if they are removed.

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
From what I have heard, it was a tough day for everyone involved. Rumor has it that the BOT went into a closed session about 6 hours into the discussion because of heated words between a number of individuals involved. Changing the direction/refocusing WIU to allow it to thrive as the institution w...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
The governor does have the authority to keep the three listed (really two) or sweep the house clean! Who knows what he will do! ;) jc Y.S.'s term has expired, but she agreed to remain until a new board is named. She would have to be actively reappointed to continue. T.L.'s term is not expired, so h...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
Of course, this is Illinois state government. So anything can melt down at any moment, right?

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
I have on very good authority that a BOT has been selected. Senior Admin knows who they are and they're waiting for the Governor's Office to make the public announcement. They should be seated for this week's meeting.

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
After browsing around to some other states (California, New York, ...), it seems like Illinois university BOTs tend to be on the smaller (in terms of membership) side. With that limited membership, you really cannot even come with much in the way of productive committee assignments. Hence, it becom...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
So do public colleges and universities have any say-so on who their trustees will be or do they just have to accept whoever the Gov throws their way? Seems to me they should have some input. If you are having budget difficulties, it might be nice to have someone with a strong financial background. ...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
UIUC’s MBA is 72 credits. Out of state it is 20k per semester. It’s around 12k instate. That’s 5 semesters of study, minimum. Iowa’s MBA is a flat fee 30k, in state or out. Iowa residents in the QC will not pay 100k for a UIUC MBA. UIUC’s MBA is better, but not 70k better, especially for workers who...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
I would make a pitch to the U of I System. Let us in and we will give you the QC facilities. You can move your Nursing Program and maybe a few other relevant things into that space. They are probably leasing space just up the street. The state just needs to start taking a "Macro"-planning...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
The above-referenced WQAD News report makes it sound like the "weight" of the Quad Cities campus has the potential to bring down the entire Western "ship". Might be time to move everything back to Macomb. The major mistake made in the QC was offering traditional undergraduate pr...
