The point system is based on where a team finishes in the league standings for the fall semester sports.Tere North wrote:How is this scored, i.e., what did we get 8 points for?
North Dakota State sits atop the Commissioner’s Cup standings after capturing the women’s soccer regular season title and placing third in both men’s and women’s cross country. The Bison took fourth in the volleyball standings.
IUPUI took home the men’s cross country title and placed second in volleyball to go along with their fourth-place finish in women’s cross country.
South Dakota had top-five finishes in all four of its eligible sports, including placing first in women’s cross country.
South Dakota State had runner-up finishes in men’s and women’s cross country and a third place in women’s soccer.
On that PDF I linked earlier, it lists the breakdown for the various sports.
We finished last in men's cross country (1 pt), 7th out of 8 in women's cross country (2 pts), 4th out of 6 in men's soccer (3 points), last in women's soccer (1 point) and last in volleyball (1 point).
Also, just fyi, each "side" (Men and women) have their own name for the awards standings, and the women's one is the "Dr. Helen Smiley Women's All-Sports Award Standings"...named after our former Athletics Director.
Last year, Western finished 7th out of 9 teams, helped mostly by roughly middle-of-the-conference finishes from the women's basketball, soccer, and softball teams.
Last year we finished last in Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's and Women's swimming & diving, Men's indoor track & Field, Men's Basketball, Men's and Women's tennis, and baseball.
