Makes more sense to me to let the alumni and current students have a vote. Sooner or later, we will get to the point where these kind of elections can be easily conducted with our cell phones. Screw the territorial boundary approach.Tere North wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 10:34 amOther than "its the law" in Illinois, these would have to be statewide elections since students through the state, and other states, attend our state universities. In contrast, community colleges, like public high schools, have regional boudaries.sealhall74 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 8:06 am Somebody please answer the question why we elect board trustee members for our JUCOs yet leave it up to elected politicians to appoint trustees to oversee our higher institutions of learning.

Embrace the pace of the race.
Just FYI, I believe that the BOT is required to not have a majority of one political party. I don't know how that would work with elections, and if they'd have to scrap that requirement if they went to a vote system.

The Trump administration on Monday unveiled new fall semester rules for international students, including a requirement that they take in-person classes to remain in the U.S., a condition that raised concerns as certain colleges and universities are planning to use online instruction because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Students already in the U.S. under those programs who are planning to attend colleges or universities that will only offer online classes in the fall will need to transfer to other schools providing in-person instruction, depart the country, or face potential deportation, ICE said.

I mean...it's maybe a bit easier than it would be if we had 12k students, but as the significant other of the person who has to handle all the room scheduling for classes..."isn't too difficult" is not what I would call this. Classrooms now have a "covid capacity". A room that originally could hold 30 might have a "covid capacity" of 8. Some departments have been good about getting their information in to get rooms updated...others most definitely have not.
