Ok, sounds like Western will travel to USC-Upstate (it's in Spartanburg, South Carolina...same town that FCS team Wofford is in).

The WBI rules say that the higher seed gets first chance at hosting, but it costs money. Traveling teams get paid. So it's likely a financial issue...we were able to swing one home game, but not two. http://www.womensbasketballinvitational.com/faqs/FAQs
What is the guarantee required from host teams?
$10,000 for the first and second rounds, $12,000 for the semifinal and final rounds.

What guarantee will the travel teams receive?
$7,000 for the first and second rounds, $9,000 for the semifinal and final rounds.
So, for this first round game, Western paid $10k, although they get to keep "gate" (ticket sales) and concessions. I doubt they made back the $10k, but for going on the road in the second round, they'll get $7k, minus travel expenses. I don't know what it costs to get a basketball team and coaches from Illinois to South Carolina and back, but it would be nice if after the first two rounds, we'd have ended up roughly breaking even. I don't know what the plan would be if we were to win at USC-U.

According to Ben Marth, JD already said that if they won they'd be playing the next game away.

That was a great game. Another gem of call by Danny Frey. Good luck the rest of way. Saw USC Upstate play at Stetson last year. Should have taken some notes.

Mallory Boyle's layup with 0.3 seconds left in the overtime was the winning basket. Western wins 99-97.

Mallory was fouled on that play and had one free throw coming. It looked liked she missed it on purpose as it hit the rim and bounced off. That allowed the time to run out.

A made free throw would have given Western a 3-point lead. But it would have also given SIUC a chance for a miracle 3-pointer.

University Television was not doing the game. So there were no video replays available for the ref's.

Michelle Maher led the Western scoring with 26 points. Taylor Higginbotham had 25. Emily Clemens had 19. Mallory Boyle and Sophie Reichelt each had 10.

Western had 8 three-pointers. SIUC had 11.

Tommy Bell was in attendance.

Attendance at Western Hall was 694. There was a large group of Track team members in attendance.

Looked like there was a group of football players there as well. 694 people, considering it was during spring break and our home average this year was 706...not bad.

Western will advance to the quarter-finals of the WBI, where it will travel to South Carolina to take on the Spartans of South Carolina-Upstate. The eighth-seeded Spartans knocked off top-seeded Northern Kentucky in the opening round of WBI action.

Tipoff in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is set for 6 p.m. (CT).

The College of Fine Arts and Communications Broadcasting Department does the Athletic events and was not there to handle Athletics video needs. I know for a fact University Television was never asked to help out in anyway. That would have been a good game to have streamed on ESPN 3 to help show case Athletics and the University.

I saw a tweet thanking the baseball team for being in attendance also. - Is that attendance figure actual paid or does that include the WIU sports teams that were in attendance that got in free.

In almost every released attendance figure, the count includes EVERYBODY including players, coaches, refs, workers, fans, etc.

I honestly believe my alma mater should take the lead in pushing the attendance figure reporting envelope by including on-line viewers, listeners, tweeters, ...
How to do it would be a good project for some intermediate marketing class.
