We're adding beach volleyball as a sport. The season starts in mid-February and runs through early May. I'd imagine that, like with softball and baseball, most of the matches in February, March, and early April will be down south. The OVC does sponsor beach volleyball as a sport with the following schools having it: Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, Morehead State, UT Martin, and UT Chattanooga as an associate member.
Unlike bowling, this one is mostly dominated by schools that are more familiar to the "average college sports fan". The final AVCA ranking this season had USC, UCLA, TCU, Florida State, Loyola Marymount (CA), LSU, Cal, Stanford, and Grand Canyon University as the top 10. Looks like USC and UCLA have dominated the sport, with those two teams owning all of the NCAA championships back to 2016.
If we go the same route as EIU, then we'll be playing a handful of single game matchups, a couple of weekend tournaments (last year, EIU played one at Chattanooga and one at Morehead), then the OVC Championships at Martin, TN. Here's there schedule for that: https://eiupanthers.com/sports/beach-vo ... l/schedule
EIU plays their home matches as Sister City Park, which is a park on the south side of Charleston, IL (https://goo.gl/maps/KbjsJPghkGS3KTaD8?c ... 2&entry=tt).
Unless the park district decides to put in some sand volleyball courts out at Veterans Park, I'd imagine we'll probably play our home matches at the courts near North Quad: https://goo.gl/maps/RdoucAa58pbdZSYLA?c ... 3&entry=tt
Unless they decide to build new ones somewhere else, like behind Brophy Hall or something.

Yup, I should have checked the OVC website for that. Wikipedia is apparently out-of-date for that information.

I know it’s off topic but do we still do the mud volleyball tournament for fundraisers at the beginning of the year because I know it use to be a pretty big hit.
Looks like the last time it was held was in 2015. I'd imagine it's not likely to return while the North Quad buildings remain offline.leatherneckcountry wrote: Thu May 18, 2023 2:17 pm I know it’s off topic but do we still do the mud volleyball tournament for fundraisers at the beginning of the year because I know it use to be a pretty big hit.
