This. If money was no object (like...if we were Texas A&M or something), then yes, buy out his contract and bring in someone new.
We don't have anything close to that kind of money, and what little we do, we can't be putting towards buying out a contract, even if it's just a few hundred thousand.

Looks like that’s was based on last fiscal year so only half a year so yearly salary is closer to 185K

That is the correct Annual Salary.  It does not include anything paid or provided to him by sources outside the University.  Not saying there are any, just that they wouldn't be reported as paid by the Univ.
