I watched the end of the SD St/South Dakota - pretty good game

I agree. At the lines, they're pretty evenly matched, with a slight advantage to SDSU in the run game. Jackrabbits had a mistake late in the game (fumble) that USD was able to capitalize on (returned for TD) to tie it up. Then in OT, USD settled for a FG, but SDSU was able to get it in for a TD (after having to convert on a potentially game-losing 4th and 1).

Both teams are very good at what it takes to be national title contenders.  Run the ball well and stop the run.  Hence, the low-scoring tug-of-war-fest.
