Disappointing result last weekend, despite beating the spread, but we can't dwell on that because this weekend Charleston Southern comes to town for Homecoming.
CSU is 1-6 overall this season (0-3 in the OVC/BS). They opened their season with two FBS losses, 45-3 at Vanderbilt and 13-0 at Coastal Carolina. They then started OVC games a little early, losing 35-28 against Lindenwood, before a couple more OOC games, falling 34-7 at William & Mary and picking up their only win so far, 31-24 at S.C. State. Playing at Gardner-Webb, they fell 30-27, then lost 27-13 at Tennessee Tech last weekend.

Of our remaining games, this is the one that Massey gives us the best chance of winning, essentially a "coin flip" with us having a 49% chance of winning. Our remaining games: at TN State (46% chance), Lindenwood (44%), SEMO (28%) and at Gardner-Webb (25%). On the plus side, it's looking like this year's Homecoming Alumni Band will be the largest ever, with 58 Marching Leatherneck Alumni currently registered to participate.

If we don't have the same ref crew as we had at Lindenwood last year, we might stand a chance. That game was called horribly. Still have to get through the games ahead of them, though. One thing I can say is that if we are able to hang on to the freshmen coach brought in, we should be better in the next couple of years - sounds like we're playing a lot of freshmen so they'll be ahead of the learning curve (I hope).

LEATHERNECKS are in position to win out.

Great athletes have to put the past behind. Leathernecks need to focus on the next six weeks.

LEATHERNECKS win today!

Buccaneer trivial trivia for the game:

HC Giardina was a walkon at Alabama and played a few games as place kicker and holder.  ESPN announcer Chris Fowler once described him as "Alabama's answer to Rudy".  After graduating, he stayed with the Alabama program for a couple of years as a grad assistant under HCs Shula and Saban. He had good success as a HC at D2 Albany State (37-17).  Not so much at his current stop (5-22).

Both teams come in at 1-6.  Hopefully, the Necks are fired up enough on this Homecoming game to pull off the W.

I can't pretend to know how to operate a program under current Ncaa conditions and the pay to play rules. Right SMU death penalty..... Ok now buisness as usual.

Playing P4 teams is two levels above us.

I'm wondering Knox College playing an Illinois State, and then South Dakota State. Yeah, these kids aren't going to be demoralized, they are going to be disabled.

Just a thought
