If you want to talk about Monmouth University Football, Quincy University Basketball, Notre Dame Men's Soccer, or whatever, this is the place.

The conference's top RB from last season, Illinois State's Marshaun Coprich was suspended following an arrest for attempting to sell weed to an undercover officer.

Apparently Yahoo didn't do its research or it did and just had poor journalism as he now plays for Indiana State and they were in the National Championship last year. This may be fixed by time everyone reads.

Yea, looks like it's fixed now. I'm sure someone who didn't really know anything about FCS football, just heard ISU, looked it up and their first result was Indiana State or something.

Interesting. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks that a "guilty" plea does warrant some type of punishment.

Yea, I think that's a pretty good take on things. I mean....otherwise good kid, first offense, but still, whether you think what he did should be illegal or not, what he did was a felony in the state of Illinois. He's getting probation from the legal system, but at this point, essentially no punishment from the university (at this point in time).

Compare it to what happened with Nikko Watson. I don't know if I ever heard if he was convicted and what with, but from the courier article that appeared when it happened:
Watson was arrested for unlawful restraint, domestic battery and two counts of battery following an altercation
Prior to this indecent, I am unaware of any legal issues Watson had in the past, and he was suspended from the team (maybe even kicked out of school?...can't remember) for an entire year.

I don't think that ISU needs to "make an example" of Coprich with a huge, severe punishment, but I do think that some amount of game suspension is warranted....2-3 games maybe...something like that, so that ISU isn't setting a precedent of allowing someone who committed a felony (whether it ends up being removed from his record or not) play on the team without any repercussions.

Actually, there are some on the ISU message boards that also think this is not kosher. Not a majority, by any means, but there are those who think he should have gotten at least some bench time. They also keep mentioning someone else who apparently got booted off for what they consider to be the equivalent of Coprich's actions.

I do believe Nikko did leave the university last year - I know they said he was taking classes at SRC while waiting for the whole thing to play out.

I hope things work out for him and he gets his head on straight. I just don't feel it reflects well on ISU athletics to let him off the hook. Talk about athletes being able to get away with anything.............
