My question is this kid is confident mobile, accurate, athletic, and poised. How did we snag this guy? This guy would be a get for a major program... I wonder what offers he had besides Western.
How blessed are we as Leatherneck fans that when Norvell went down (not his fault) we went to the stable and didn't skip a beat. Depth like this is often lacking at the D-I 63 scholarship level.
Thoughts?
Sean Mcguire?

Best QB out of Wisconsin in his class. Luckily for us, big schools don't look for QBs out of Wisconsin.
Like his size and paired with just enough mobility to keep plays alive. Good arm and throws well on move. Though he did short arm a game winner to Harris in the 4th, but didn't end up mattering.

Not really sure, but we were sure lucky to get him. I've been very impressed with his composure and talent. I like that he's able to run the ball as well as hand it/pass it off. I also like the way he spreads the passes around - it is great to have targets other than Borsellino and Lenoir (not taking anything away from them at all, just that the more options you have, the harder it is to defend against).
Just me, but even if Trenton is able to be back (which I doubt - no sense in pushing him in quicker and risking complications) I'd like to see McGuire get the start. I think the kid's earned it.

He had offers from Northern Iowa and Butler. 2-star QB on Rivals. Also had some interest and visits with area Big 10 and MAC teams. He was a huge pickup. I honestly don't what they're going to do next year...go with the experienced Senior that helped us beat Eastern, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, or go with the talented youngster (he'll be a sophomore next year) who helped us finish the regular season 2-0 and got us into the playoffs. McGuire hasn't been perfect, obviously, but it seems like the last half of the season, he did play better than Norvell had been doing. Going to be an interesting spring and summer training camps to see who's the better QB and who they go with to start the season.

I'm curious how long Norvell was suffering in silence. Appendicitis is no joke. I don't know the answer but what little I know of Norvell the pain would have to be debilitating for him to admit there was a problem.
Seems to me we're lucky to have twoQB's like this. Not sure two games is the second half of a season. Either QB would have won the last two and neither would have won N.D. St. . The defense has gotten their act together and Nikko got his ankle back, but sore ankle again. I agree with redneck appendix is a bitch. I do know Trenton and a lot of the other guys. And it would take more than a lot for him to go down. He played with a shoulder separation his first year for almost the whole season. All these kids are modern gladiators. But what I'm trying to say is we have two really good QB's. Not sure you should lose your job to an appendix, but I know you can't play having one just taken out.
Wish him a fast and healthy recovery.

Sorry, that was a mistype on my part. Didn't mean last "half" of the season, just the last couple of games. I agree that the team in general seems to have gotten better as well. If Norvell had been battling pain from this for a while before the week before the game at Indiana State, then that could explain some of what happened the previous few weeks.
Personally, what I'd like to see is for McGuire to finish out the rest of the playoffs, however long that goes. Give Norvell plenty of time to fully recover and come back during spring practice fully healed up and ready to go...then see how they both do. Either way, that would give McGuire some more experience, because at this point it looks like he will be the #1 guy when Norvell finishes after next year.
It's nice to know that we've got two very good QBs to chose from. They each have their strengths, but both are excellent.

I had considered sharing this story in the playoff thread, but this seems to be the best home for it. Our son transferred to Western back during the summer. While touring campus on our own we walked thru Hanson Field. There was a group of players independently working out on the field in the summer heat. This one guy was slinging passes all over the field. They weren't tossing the ball around like you do in the backyard. It seemed serious, regimented, and with purpose.
He stopped when he noticed this 6'5-300 guy wandering down the track. He jogged over and said, "Hey, are you a new football player here at Western?" to which my son replied in the affirmative. "I'm Sean McGuire, let me introduce to some of the guys." That meant a lot to my son being a transfer to Western.
It highlighted a couple of things for me. There are a lot of class young men in this program, and the success they achieved on a cold Saturday in November started back during the hot days of June/July.
