We have talent and who's to question his football IQ and confidence, especially everyone on the outside looking in. As much as people want to hate on Nielson (I get it), the guys wins everywhere, so I'm confident that Yelk has been groomed well. Throw in he was an outstanding football player and seems to be of high character.

Does everyone think that only successful coaches in the history of this game have had D1 HC experience or 15 plus years experience on Power 5 staffs? Sometimes you have to take chances on people, sometimes because of time and money you're forced to take chances and though this might be the ladder, we won't know until we hit the field next year. PJ Fleck had almost 0 coaching experience and took Western Michigan from 1-13 his first year to a bowl game in 2014 and back bowling this year. Rod Carey's highest position was OC for 1 year at NIU before taking over as HC and he's doing pretty well. These are just 2 examples of guys off the top of my head since they're from NIU.

Look at YSU. Same team as last year, coach with the MOST FBS HC experience and wins in all of FCS and the same result.

This should keep the recruiting moving forward, players happy, BOB in the rearview and that's what matters right now.

GO LEATHERNECKS!!!!!!
Good to know! The key is to surround yourself with "football minds!" I guess I get the Coach Nielsen thing. I was just raised in a home where "loyalty" was an expectation. It still bothers me about Luke leaving. But that's the way of the world know a days! ;) jc
I hear you, as I wouldn't leave for an in conference team. Nor would I have let for GB like Luke, even for my future wife/husband as it was one more year. Let's throw in Obi. I got he wanted to be closer to home and his situation was he and his family all moved here from Africa, so family was even bigger to him, but I still get a little upset when I see he drops 30 for Oral Roberts and they didn't want him out of High School.

Interestingly enough, he also tore his ACL after transferring.

The new coach will have one issue to deal with when he takes charge.

The following was in today's Macomb newspaper's "Police Briefs":
Lance Arbin Lenoir, 20, of Crete was arrested for theft of $500 or less and resisting an officer on Sunday.

Lance is a LEJA major.

I had 3 interested and positive emails from people that I had met and given my card to for membership in the Leatherneck club right after the ISU game. Athletes and alumni were definitely excited about WIU football that day. Even with this "bump" in the football road things are beginning to move in the right direction. People are ready to help make a difference. I think some of it is the fact that people my age from the golden age of Leatherneck football (70's) have the ability now to start giving back.

Yokel, great goals and I too would like to increase my Leatherneck Club tier but I am not sure my wife would go for it! Guess we will have that discussion very very soon.

Comments about the quadcities have gotten me a bit irritated too, that is until I realized that moving Thompson Hall to the QC would just cost a fiscal fortune let alone an engineering nightmare. :o The WIU campus in Macomb is where my "heart" lies no matter what! Lets get on with it! ;) jc

Maybe he was stealing some "stick-em" for his hands. Had a few too many drops in ISU game. The stuff coaches have to put up with this day and age.

So, LokelYokelFan, what do you think needs to be done to fill football and basketball? (not trying to be snarky here). A small town like Macomb only has so many resources, only so many people. No airport, limited hotel rooms of quality, teams have to bus from Peoria (very inconvenient in bringing bigger schools from a distance). People have complained about lack of student interest, but, what has Macomb done to help fill the seats? Lack of any real media prevents marketing to a large audience.

Letsgonecks, the Obi thing irritates me too! What was even more gauling was the fact that they had to send a coach to pick him up at home so he could make it to the Oregon game. He had already gone home even though there was a very very good chance that WIU was going to play some postseason basketball. ;) jc

So who made the mistake. Obi for leaving early. Or the coach for going to get him.

They moved it back to 1pm CT to make sure it DOES conflict with the BOB presser? Who knows what goes on in these people's minds.
