This needs to be resolved ASAP. Through all the ups and a lot of very bad downs (seasons, AD problems, Coaches fired/leaving, money issues) of my 16 years loving the WIU and WIU Athletics, this is the first time I've started to lose hope.
All those years of people mentioning us dropping down to DII or DIII all the way to dropping football has made me angry and I wanted to tell those people to go "F" themselves, but if this gets any worse, those folks may be right and I hate myself for saying this!!!!!!
I give money every year to WIU and to the Leatherneck Club and I truly wish I had millions......I'd give it, but with the trouble the State of IL and WIU is in, what I've been giving might have been a waste.
I'm not losing hope 100%, but again having a tough time dealing with not having the true optimism I've always had.
I know it's tough for the school and they can't just print new money, but something has to be worked out quickly. We might see young guys, guys that have graduated (will graduate) transfer or guys like Lance or Joey who didn't use a redshirt sit somewhere a year and have 1 left (they might not be able to as the rule requires 2 years of eligibility unless the redshirt available meets that).

If I had the money, I'd donate a ton to get this resolved. Unfortunately, I don't.
I really hate this. I've been a 'Neck football fan for what seems like forever, and never thought things would get this dismal.
What makes it worse is the feeling of utter frustration about the inability to do anything - no one to contact to put pressure on and such.

An entire week to form a search committee, something that should have been done before Monday's announcement. Biller is leading a clusterfuck charge of this university.ST_Lawson wrote:Officially...national search starting next week.

Maybe I should change this poll to:
Who gets to "fall on the sword" for this....thing (I honestly can't think of another way to describe it using polite language).

The players wanted Yelk and the administration tried to lowball him on salary [my read]. They were over confident. The players needed and deserved the continuity after South Dakota poached our turncoat HC. While we can blame administration for screwing this up and rightly so, the real unethical behavior here rests in Vermillion. There can be really be no other spin. Perhaps, we will be better served with a coaching staff that has no ties to the previous HC. A fresh start.ST_Lawson wrote:Officially...national search starting next week.

Now, we wait and see who the search committee can attract. If the school can attract the right HC, the players will largely come around and be on board.

Honestly, I don't really hold USD up to blame for this. They made a better offer...one we couldn't match...and they got who they wanted. They are also apparently giving him enough money to work with to bring who he wants to with him. It's sounding more like Nielson was wanting out rather than USD trying to "poach" a fellow conference coach.
It's not their fault that the financial situation here isn't very good, that our administration has mishandled the situation, and that players are upset about it.
Earlier today I was going to make a post along the lines of...at least we're not as bad off as U of I's athletics department, but decided against it.
