Wow. I was hoping to come home tonight and see the feedback on our new head coach. Instead, this fiasco has unfolded. What a mess.

The first big test of our interim AD isn't going too well. He seems like a good guy, but this nonsense is not good.

I expect there to be plenty of interest, but the leadership in the administration during this has been abysmal.

Please give me some encouraging news. I'm not just concerned about the coaching position, I'm very concerned about what affect this is having on the team. Will we even have a football team when this circus is over?

If you watched the BOB presser today, one of the attractions he mentioned was the strong vision and leadership shown within USD to move their program forward. Those words were very carefully chosen from my LazyBoy vantage point.

So some people really enjoy once again jumping on their favorite administrator when ever they have a chance! This is about hiring a football coach. Wish it could have been easier but "shit" happens! We have a team full of playoff promise, let's get a coach and move on! ;) jc

Biller chose not to involve the interim AD and play big man on campus himself. Fumble return for a touchdown the other way.

Just so disappointing and a total lack of leadership. I felt like the tide was turning as we were seeing significant progress in football with a return to the playoffs and the great start in men hoops. Not to mention the win at Wisconsin.

I understand that the overall health of the university is important and I want it to get back on a path of growth so it can thrive, however let's be honest...athletics can be the front porch of a university. The week began with men's tennis getting cut, losing our head football coach and now an absolute disaster in hiring a new one. Whatever money they saved by cutting tennis will be out the window during this hiring process.

1. Western needs a true AD, use that committee time next week to do that as well.
2. Football is a revenue sport....I hope...and should receive the support necessary to compete at a high level in the MVFC. We are not anything close to a D2 program...that BS talk needs to stop. You needed to go to an Indiana State game a few years ago and tell me if that reminds you of Western. THAT was a program on the brink. Pay the coaches...if Neilson was making $215k and you need to pay that much for a replacement than so be it. Who cares about the age? Qualifications and character matter. I didn't care much for TVA but at least he understand what it took to make a quality hire for a key athletic program at Western in football.
3. Assemble this committee sooner than next week. This is your job Biller and Tanney. How do you expect people to support the Leatherneck Club when you are working overtime to hire a quality person for this spot? True you may get him in time, but it will be too late recruiting wise. I bet Spack leaves ISUr so western had better get out in front of this before they hire a replacement.

NFS71 - You don't work for Biller, do you? You can't believe what's you actually typed, can you? Biller said they knew about this for weeks and would have an announcement at 11 AM today. They didn't, presumably because he screwed it up like he's good at. I completely agree with Tere when she referenced his handling of the Western Courier 'scandal' awhile back. Biller 101, incompetence / stupidity for miles.

On Sunday, a silent period starts for recruiting. Nielson left us in a bind, but there are decisions that this administration can make to minimize the damage. They could keep a good, respected, young staff in tact and hope they can learn on the fly. They may find a more qualified head coach after the conclusion of their national search. But don't be surprised if in the mean time they lose the rest of their coach staff, current players who are really the ones to credit for the rise in the program, and the recruits they've worked hard on securing. That nationally qualified candidate will be back at the starting gate and we'll have to suffer thru a few more 2-9 seasons before we see a glimpse of the playoffs again.

NFS71 - Give me 5 examples of good decisions the leadership of WIU (Biller and above) has made in recent years and I'm sure you'll calm a lot of our fears on here. Problem is you likely won't be able to.
