Does the state of Illinois have a "Rooney's Rule" in place or is it just within our institution? State of Oregon did pass one and from I can gather, the NCAA is looking to move into that territory as well. FYI, Rooney rules requires at least one minority candidate to be interviewed for all HC positions.

Our last three search committee finalists: Nielson of course, Bill Cubit (former Westerm Miichigan, now HC at Illinois), and David Brown (then HC of Mo S&T, now secondary coach at Wyoming). I think one of the latter two bailed out prior to interviews but which one escapes me at the moment. Where is 712 when you need him? Why should we care about this? Simple. History (both good and bad) repeats itself with all things being equal. I think this year's success will repeat itself if we can find a way to keep Yelk and a few other coaches.

ALSO, new member Former Neck OX is right. If we do get a good HC, don't count on him being here for more than 3 or 4 years. That history also repeats itself.

.
Cubit was the one that bailed out early in order to take the OC job at Illinois.

In defense of Tanney and don't the know why is out of the country, but guessing he knew this was finals week so no sporting events are going on so it would be a good week to be gone. So he would be back when the games start back up. Just a guess, so I don't really blame him. Especially with technology today -, they have Skype, facetime, whatever.

I agree with Tere - Biller seems to have screwed the Pooch on this, in the release on Nielson leaving Tanney is quoted as saying they will conduct a national search to find a new coach. Then during the PC Biller basically said a new coach will be announced the next day. So a contradiction right out of the gate and hence the mess they are in right now.

I am still intrigued by the sticks on the table. Is there a stick there (some even bundled up like a brotherhood statement) for every player who is onboard with wanting Yelk?

Right...it's not like he went and planned this last week. He probably had tickets and reservations (some of which likely non-refundable) weeks, if not months, in advance. And if you consider how things were looking a few weeks ago...slow time, not much going on around campus (at least in regards to athletics), didn't seem like there'd be much he'd have to be dealing with right now....this would have normally been a great time to get away for a bit. I don't think Tanney is at fault in this. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, he does when he gets back (if there is anything he can do as an "interim" AD).

Not a clue. Would be nice to have any anonymous players (or those close to them that know what's up) give us a hint. Just want them to know we're all as pissed about this as they are, and would like to see it resolved ASAP.

I am here!

I agree with W1U: Bill Cubit withdrew from consideration after being offered the Offensive Coordinator position at UIUC.

I know that Matt Tanney is on vacation. But isn't there a "second-in-command" at Western Athletics who can act in his absence ????

The spokesperson at the Monday press conference (Vice President for Student Services Gary Biller) did not generate a positive image for Western Athletics.

Western fans will remember that it was V.P. Biller who went after the editor of the "Western Courier" Nicholas Stewart last December. That resulted in a lot of negative P.R. for the university.

The wrench in the gears here is the fact that BOB is desiring to have his staff in place by end of this week. Again, he chose those words after very careful consideration of what is going on in Macomb.

Maybe, just maybe, this is a little peek at what coach nielson had to deal with on a daily basis?

Could it be that these same bumbling fools that are fumbling this situation away that lead to Nielson getting out as soon as possible?

At the presser in Vermillion it seems as though Bob stressed how surrounding yourself with quality people becomes more and more important. Is that a little hint? I choose to believe so.

Speaks volumes as to who is "in charge" at the university. From the president down.

I really dont blame coach Nielson anymore. I know what it is like to work for clueless "management".
