Wasn't sure if I should post these, but in the interest of keeping accurate information, I thought I should mention any players that I know are leaving for other schools.
Brock Broughton (R-Freshman DB) -> U of Illinois (as near as I can tell)
Broughton redshirted last year, had 11 tackles this season with a game high of 7 against South Dakota State. Was actually a Rivals 2-star RB out of HS.
Not including Broughton, we have 13 DBs on the roster that have at least two more years with us (all Freshmen, R-Fresh, or Sophomores) including guys that got plenty of playing time: Diggs, Rowe, Smith, Spearman, etc.
Outgoing transfers

Well...technically I did...WIU0812 wrote:May be worth mentioning that Broughton was a RB when he came in as a 2 star recruit. I thought he would be a starter here. I know his family was always a big supporter of WIU since he was playing there used to see tweets all the time.
But yea, I was thinking the same thing...that he'd be the one to take over after Nikko was gone. I wonder if Illinois wants him as a RB or a DB. Either way, I hope it works out well for him.Was actually a Rivals 2-star RB out of HS.

From inside info. Broughton was never given chance to play RB. They asked him to move to DB to get on the field quicker. Never had the chance to run behind 1's or 2's in practice to show what he could do.. Broughton is looking at all options D2 & D1. He wants to play right away.. We will see..
That sucks. He probably could have been a really good RB for us if given the chance.Footballdad wrote:From inside info. Broughton was never given chance to play RB. I was assuming Illinois based on his dad's tweet, but now that I think about it, that's probably just from warmups at the game at Illinois earlier this season:

I don't know the leathernecks seem pretty stacked on the running back position i think this guy Charles Westbrook will replace Nikko Watson at the RB position he's a baller

That's entirely possible, although he doesn't have the size of Watson (not that many RBs do).RecruitingradarUSA wrote:I don't know the leathernecks seem pretty stacked on the running back position i think this guy Charles Westbrook will replace Nikko Watson at the RB position he's a baller

Westbrook did get in on some runs this year. He'll be a senior along with Devon Moore who also has had some playing time.
Devon Sanders got some playing time early in the year before Watson got back into the swing of things and he'll be a Junior.
But I'm hoping that long-term, we can see something like a 2-back setup...one that's small and quick (ala JC Baker)...that would be Steve McShane (a Sophomore next year), and one that's larger and can plow through the middle...I'm hoping that maybe Max Norris can be that for us (5' 10", 225lbs)...pretty sure he redshirted this year. Norris isn't quite as big as Watson, but still has a bit more size than your average RB, and if he's got talent and can play (or even start) for all 4 years, he could really have some success.
I do agree that we have a decent amount of options at RB right now and the future looks promising in that aspect.

Don't be surprised when Charles Westbrook takes over . After briefly talking to his former position coach Westbrook possesses all the attributes to be the starter at WIU including size & speed due to comming to camp late and having a nagging hamstring injury he was buried on the depth chart but worked up to being the 2nd string back later on in the season behind Nikko . I believe in the California kid he's an all around back he's got talent
Good to hear. Too bad we'll really only have him starting full-time for one year. Maybe he can make it a really great one.RecruitingradarUSA wrote:Don't be surprised when Charles Westbrook takes over .
