Sounds like it's pretty much official minus the press release:

I saw that, sounds like most of the coaching staff is going with him. People are thinking SDSU will have a lot of players enter the portal.

their QB did enter the portal, but he might declare for the draft. Sounds like if he doesn't turn pro he will follow his coach to Washington St

Yep, this is the way you do things today.  The AD pulls out his "Next Man Up" file and works his way down the list with a nice salary offer until someone bites.  National searches result in the "Too many cooks spoil the broth" syndrome.

Embrace the pace of the race.

Sources: South Dakota is promoting defensive coordinator Travis Johansen to head coach. Johansen has been the defensive coordinator at South Dakota since 2019. They are coming off the best season in school history (11-3), reaching the FCS semi-finals.

Looking on the Coyotes site, I see Nielsen named a new offensive coordinator in December, then retires a couple weeks later, that is kinda odd. If you knew you were retiring why not let the new coach name is own OC. Although their might have been a bunch of stuff behind the scenes I guess.

Yeah, I feel like maybe he knew he was going to retire, and had spoken to the DC about it already, hence the quick hiring. I'd bet that the DC (now HC) had a strong say in who was hired as the OC.
