Very correct Scott, but we can ask. Most often they go to schools where they are wanted rather than searching for schools that want them. And as I edited in my post, might help lessen that negative Marine Corps reaction out our marketing bastardization of their logo.ST_Lawson wrote:it's up to the Navy to decide where their ROTC programs are.
Who do you want to see as a new HC?....Part II

True. I wonder what the ROI is on a Navy ROTC program. I'm all for trying, but in the current financial state of the university, we can't really be starting up programs that are going to end up costing more money that the university doesn't have.Tere North wrote: Very correct Scott, but we can ask. The military pays the salaries of the instructors as they are active duty personnel. The only cost to the university is secretarial support. Who knows, both ROTC programs could share a single secretary (or whatever they call them today). Entire Military Science WIU budget for FY2016 is $45,897, with >$8K being telecommunications.

That's a possibility. Maybe see about tying it in with our excellent law enforcement program to train officers for this: https://www.navy.com/careers/first-resp ... urity.html
Cost-wise, it doesn't sound like much, at least one it's up and running.
There's 3 Navy ROTC programs in Illinois currently: U of I, Northwestern, and Illinois Institute of Technology.
I can see it now...Army ROTC at the south end zone, Navy ROTC at the north end zone, trying to outdo each other with cheers.

And the same for basketball, though the band may have to move to the sideline for that.ST_Lawson wrote:I can see it now...Army ROTC at the south end zone, Navy ROTC at the north end zone, trying to outdo each other with cheers.
Edit: Just sent an inquiry to the Navy asking about how schools become Navy ROTC sites.
Nah, unless they suddenly have 100+ students in either ROTC program, it's not an issue. We can fit 30 pep band people in less than half of one end of the stands, and we have to space ourselves out so we don't hit each other with instruments. A group of 20-30 ROTC people won't have any problem.Tere North wrote:And the same for basketball, though the band may have to move to the sideline for that.ST_Lawson wrote:I can see it now...Army ROTC at the south end zone, Navy ROTC at the north end zone, trying to outdo each other with cheers.
Pep Band and Navy ROTC being loud on one end, student section and Army ROTC being loud on the other end. It could really get the place jumping.

What I would like to see as our FBS game every year would be a game against Army, Navy or Air Force at a neutral site. Play one team a year. That might put some government money in our pockets. I think that would be a huge draw but I do understand the proximity of Illinois, NIU, Northwestern etc...

Awesome idea, but so sad I don't see the current administration ever considering such a great idea. Too, too, easy.ST_Lawson wrote:Pep Band and Navy ROTC being loud on one end, student section and Army ROTC being loud on the other end. It could really get the place jumping.

Let's make it happen.Leatherneck57 wrote:What I would like to see as our FBS game every year would be a game against Army, Navy or Air Force at a neutral site. Play one team a year. Well, with the B10 going with no FCS games scheduled in the future, we're going to have to be a bit more creative in our scheduling of games. Our upcoming games with U of I and Northwestern over the next few years will likely be our last.Leatherneck57 wrote:What I would like to see as our FBS game every year would be a game against Army, Navy or Air Force at a neutral site. We'll have to look more towards B12, MAC, and others in the future for our FBS games. If we can work in an occasional game against military academy schools, that'd be pretty cool.
