Clayberg is going to Iowa with a greyshirt opportunity. At least we didn't lose him to a MVFC school
I consider myself very knowledgeable when it comes to college footall but i've never been able to figure out what a greyshirt means.
A player commits to a team that is over-signed.
That player either doesn't go to school in the fall, or enrolls part-time and pays their own way. They are not officially on the team.
In January of the following year, that player enrolls full-time and officially joins the team. They are technically part of the recruiting class for the following year.
It delays having the student athlete be "officially" on the team until the next year (which they could then redshirt). So by the looks of it, Clayberg could greyshirt next fall (2016)...be a student at Iowa, but not officially on the team until January 2017. In 2017 season, he could redshirt, and then play 2018-2021. It gets him into the school, he gets an extra spring and summer semester to participate in workouts (like a mid-year transfer), but still preserves his redshirt year and allows Iowa to not have him count against their recruiting limit (25 players) in what will likely be a strong recruiting year for them (following one of their best seasons in history).

Grey Shirt = Preferred Walk-On status [i.e. you pay your own way at least for the first year and possibly beyond and are not officially on the team]. This practice is common at Power 5 schools.
Preferred walk-on is completely separate. You still aren't on scholarship, but you are given a spot on the team with the expectation of earning a scholarship in the future if you preform well.
Team says, hey we like you, but not enough to offer a scholarship or don't have one = preferred walk-on.
You show-up to a school and say I want to join the team and they have room and keep you = regular walk-on.
Grey-shirts are usually offered a scholarship that starts after the first semester when seniors graduate or people leave at semester and 1 opens up. You don't enroll full-time first semester to keep your NCAA 5 year clock from starting.

Clint Ratkovich, QB Crete-Monee HS (also pulls double-duty as occasionally a RB and MLB)
6'2", 205 lb http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4041238/clint-ratkovich
Serious running QB (1800 rushing yards last year)
The other thing that jumps out to me is that he's from Crete-Monee, so he's Landon Lenoir's QB...I wonder if the coaching staff is hoping that getting Clint will also help influence Landon...maybe get him to head our direction? Crete-Monee is where Lance Lenior came from, as well as Ole Miss star WR Laquon Treadwell (who just declared for the NFL draft after his junior year and is projected to be the #1 WR taken in the draft).

Yeah if he came here i think he would either be a RB or WR.
Sounds like a Heisman Trophy is visiting Macomb currently...technically a copy of one, since the original was lost in a fire.
I've heard that there's going to be a group of recruits in town this weekend, so I wonder if it'll be here long enough for them to stop by and see it...not that it has a connection to the university, but still, it'd be pretty cool.

There is also a copy of the first Heisman trophy up in Dubuque (the first winner went to Dubuque Senior HS...it's in the lobby of their gym) and the original first trophy is on display at the U of Chicago Athletic Hall of Fame (where the first winner played college football).
