Surviving the 2-year budget impasse should not be viewed as an overwhelming success story, but rather as having survived preseason. Yes, the game has been tough, but it's what we do with it now and how we move forward that really shows what we are made of. Did we make the right decisions for the Western team to move forward? Will we end up needing to make trades during the season? Will starters justify staying as such? Will reserves step up and become starters? And how will members from the practice squad step up and, while behind the scenes, help make us better.

In today's Western Courier, Macomb Mayor Mike Inman cited the declining enrollment at Western as one of the reasons that he is recommending a decrease in the Macomb Police Department from 27 police officers down to 24.
Mayor Inman said: “The Chief of Police has assured us that the reduction of police officers will not significantly affect the number of officers on the streets. There is a model that police and communities use to establish an appropriate number of police officers, and it’s based on population. With the decline in student enrollment at the university, we’ve got to talk about the elephant in the room and its impact on the greater community. This seems like the appropriate thing to do.”
Macomb is facing a $540,000 deficit for the current fiscal year.
The 10th day of the fall semester will be Friday. We should see the 10-Day Enrollment figures next week.
