I'm closely monitoring twitter feeds, USD's message board and the AnyGivenSaturday.com message board for any sign of an announcement of some sort. I'll post as soon as I hear/see/read anything.

In the meantime, here's something for those of you interested in HC contracts.
This site ranks D1 HC contracts. Obviously you have guys like Saban, Harbaugh, and Ferentz up at the top. But Nielson shows up at #116. The site also has a scanned copy of Nielson's contract, in case you want to review the details.

Here's the analysis: https://hkm.com/football/contracts/bob-nielson/
And here's a direct link to the contract pdf: https://hkm.com/football/wp-content/upl ... ntract.pdf

Noting Coach Nielson's contract:
Buyout clause expired after year two (equal to one year's salary)
University will use "best efforts to establish fund raising programs..." for improvements to football facilities

Other comments:
Does WIU currently have any active campaigns for improvements? USD is in the midst (construction underway) of a $66 million facility improvements program.

If this actually happens I will most likely stop sending money for leatherneck club. I do not give a lot, but what I do give I always say to donate towards football related items. We should not be losing a coach at this point in time in his career at WIU. If anything only being here this long the only way he should be leaving is if he got fired, which we know did not happen. Between Tommy to Southern and Nielson supposedly out the door WIU Athletics is becoming a mess. Not to mention programs shutting down and professors getting canned. There is glimpses of hope at times, but that just hides the issues for a short time. Not sure what the school will be in ten years, but can't say the outlook is good. I really am afraid I will be an alum of a school that no longer exists within the next decade.

Not abandoning, but can't shake the feeling that I'm a band member on the Titanic.

Seriously?

For the entire season we've seen posts about how Nielsen hasn't been the best fit, he's not ready for this level (still should be coaching DivII), and on and on. Now it looks like he might be moving on and all of a sudden it's the end of the world.

As for the university as a whole, Western isn't the only one struggling. Until IL gets its "stuff" together, every state school is going to suffer. We're just not aware of what is happening in other places (or at least I'm not privy to the economics of every school).

It's going to be rough, no doubt about it, but if we turn tail and run WE will have to face the fact that we were just fair weather fans/alumni in the end.

Just my random thoughts......
