/ This offer caught my attention former UND starting QB
That's impressive, although he also has an offer from Eastern Michigan, which is not only an FBS school, but is also really close to home for him. He grew up and went to HS in Macomb Township, northeast suburbs of Detroit. Ypsilanti is just out at the fringes of the the southwest Detroit suburbs (about an hour away from each other). It'd be kinda like a kid from Joliet going to NIU. Hopefully it speaks to the caliber of QB that he's going after though, and if his reputation as a real "QB's coach" helps him get one, that would be excellent.leatherneckcountry wrote: Fri Dec 15, 2023 1:00 am / This offer caught my attention former UND starting QB

Just an FYI…Antwon McKay Jr. who’s committed to Western Illinois starts school in Macomb in January, so he’ll be here for Spring ball. He’s 28-0 the last two years as starting QB and won back to back state championships in Missouri. He’s an athlete now!ST_Lawson wrote: Fri Dec 15, 2023 8:29 amThat's impressive, although he also has an offer from Eastern Michigan, which is not only an FBS school, but is also really close to home for him. We need a good QB to mentor and groom him. Then once he’s out of his redshirt year he could be our QB for a few years to come.

Quite a few of the current players were high school standouts and won state championships too. Unfortunately, that hasn’t yet translated into much success for the team. And if he’s half as successful as we are hoping he’ll be, there’s a good chance he transfers out after a year or two looking for a FBS home…Leatherneck57 wrote: Fri Dec 15, 2023 10:57 amJust an FYI…Antwon McKay Jr. who’s committed to Western Illinois starts school in Macomb in January, so he’ll be here for Spring ball. Get used to it…that’s today’s college football! If you can get a redshirt and 2 years from a player that’s good. Rosters will turnover more now than ever!Rockydog wrote: Fri Dec 15, 2023 7:01 pmQuite a few of the current players were high school standouts and won state championships too. Yup, if you have a really good player, they’ll be gone in a year or two. It sucks, but this is reality now and barring some complete shakeup in the structure of the NCAA, it’s going to be this way for the foreseeable future. The teams that do well will be the ones who can best take advantage of the decent (but not spectacular) homegrown talent that they have, plus do well on getting FBS transfers that come down and D2/3 transfers that come up.Leatherneck57 wrote:Get used to it…that’s today’s college football! There’s mostly the same number of scholarships available (other than a few more due to lower division teams moving up and offering more scholarships), so for every FCS player that moves up in the middle of their career, there will be a FBS (probably backup/2nd string) player transferring down.
It's the same numbers, but a LOT more shuffling around between the seasons.
For comparison, Idaho is losing pretty much all of their starting offense to the portal this winter.
