Ya problem is weatern is one of the more expendable schools in state if they have to cut cord on one. As for coaching situation it wont be good no matter what you think of coach N they will cut pay if he leaves and higher even cheaper coach

And realistically, Western might be better served as a QC campus with a community to support them rather than Macomb and trying to be the community.

Yeah Scott, I also thought he'd be here longer if he's in fact leaving, but was saying he gave us 3 straight years of improvement.

I think the biggest concern if he leaves is does he take his whole staff? Seems like he would as these are all his guys and would want a staff he's worked with.

Unless we promote one of them and they can convince the rest to not leave these kids hanging high and dry.

Really don't want to start all over with everyone new and likely not all having experience together.

That's my other worry...what happens with the other coaches? What about the kids we've got verbal commitments from and other kids we're recruiting? How many of them are we going to lose to USD (or other places)?

Starting a new coaching search now means a new coaching staff isn't going to be able to get into any recruiting until probably January. How far behind on things are we going to be then?

Not looking forward to dealing with those kinds of issues.

I can't see Western getting much fan support in the Quad Cities for athletic teams.

There is a high percentage of Iowa Hawkeye fans in the QC. Other teams of interest would be Augustana and St Ambrose.

If we stayed D1, we'd be the only D1 school in the QC, plus, regardless of level, the only public university. Some good scheduling could get us a home while the Hawks are away. Plus, we could add ice hockey. Great baseball field just across the River, lots of good SB fields, and BB/VW (along with ice hockey) at the iWireless Arena, and lot's of golf course like where the play the John Deere classic, so we wouldn't need our own facilities, though we would have to find a place for FB. Big youth sports programs could bring a following.

Just a thought.

I would say if school shut down in Macomb they would be without any sports for a while. Also if they did some how start sports there we most likely would not stay DI as the campus is and never will be nearly as big as the Macomb Campus. The Macomb campus is about size of a DIII school.

Illinois State has been in existence since 1857.

While it does get a lot of corporate financial support in B-N, it still struggles to attract local fan support.

2 suggestions.

1. If Coach N. leaves and takes staff please take the Tight Ends and Special Teams Coach if we have them.
2. If he stays cut the Special Teams and Tight Ends Coaches to save Money, again if we have them.

I saw no evidence of much coaching at either of these areas. Could save enough to keep the Coach.

In my opinion, being the only D1 school in the QC means little to nothing. Unless a school is in a power five conference, the title of being D1 doesn't hold much value in comparison to other college sports.
