Nielson Leaving?

With any school, I think it's important to have sports facilities on campus. When you have to start traveling every which way to get to home games student participation drops significantly.

As we know, getting students to games is really important when you have a program that doesn't have national draw. If you drop a level and have remote facilities, I fear athletics would become basically nothing more than a money pit.

Location is very important. I could literally walk out the back door of the main campus building at Carl Sandburg and within 50 yards, be casting away to my hearts content.

Sounds promising. Even if Nielson takes the job, might mean that Blazek could stick around which would be helpful from a consistency standpoint.

Playing at the BBall game today, so I'll just have to monitor things on Twitter throughout the game...see if there's any announcements.

So, as mentioned, the last couple of things that Coach Blazek has posted to twitter have included the hashtag #MacombIsHome. If he thought he'd be going somewhere, he probably wouldn't tweet much of anything, I'd imagine. And even if Coach Blazek was staying, that doesn't mean for sure that Nielson is staying. Either way, I'd imagine we'll probably find out sometime Monday.

Personally, I hope he sticks around for another few years, but even if he doesn't...like Beau said...

I am surprised this situation has not been resolved by now...

Sorry folks, no blockbuster announcements during final exam period. Late Wednesday is earliest it might happen IMO.

All you have to do is look to history, past and present. Tommy Bell down at SIU says he hopes to have his announcement by 19th (end of finals). Go back to 2013 when Bohl said he was leaving Fargo. He announced on Dec 8. They announced Klieman as new HC on 15th (sunday before finals). You do everything you can to put the kids at ease leading up to and during that stressful period.

Just my opinion but I am sticking with it.

You may be correct! It seems FBS schools are less likely to follow this strategy...

Any chance in hell that Blazek might be moved up to head coach if Nielson leaves?

I realize this is not a typical move, but with our state's budget woes, could this possibly be a workable situation?

Having been around for a looooong while, I know coaches come and coaches go - the program goes on. Just think it would suck for the kids he brought in to have to switch strategies their final year of college ball.

Que sera, que sera............

Gonna be a long stressful week for me if that's the case. I've gotten to the point where the last thing I do before I go to bed and the first thing I do when I wake up is check my "Bob Nielson" search on twitter...even though I'm fairly certain they wouldn't announce anything at 2 in the morning.

I can see the reasoning...not wanting to stress out the football players right before/during finals, although I would think that we're already past that point...what with all the stuff going on late last week.
