Must be a full-time WIU student and have an up-to-date physical and Sickle Cell test.

Contact Coach Denecke (p-denecke@wiu.edu) for more info.

What do you think they are looking for?  My guess would be speedburners with special teams potential.

We currently have 97 kids on the roster but can have 105 this year.  Shawn Lee and Wentric Williams III medically retired from football.  I would imagine they are looking for good kids at any position that will be good practice players, teammates and potentially earn playing time down the road.

There was one other kid that had to medically retire as well…Ian Ector.  He was a DB.

Never seen at a school this size two weeks before the first game

I attended the 2012 tryouts to cheer on a guy from my floor who did make the team. It was the second week of classes I think.

Texas A&M has the 12th man given to a walk-on that plays special teams.  Every school has a coach assigned to on campus recruiting.  It’s very common.

I think I might consider letting a few grad students from the Computer Science and Math departments "walk on" to help the program with their Artificial Intelligence expertise.  Probably get more bang for the buck.
