As part of ongoing efforts to ensure the financial stability of Western Illinois University, Waggoner Hall will begin the process of being taken offline during the 2025-2026 academic year. The decision to close Waggoner is the result of a study of campus facilities by the WIU Space Allocation Committee. This committee, composed of staff and faculty, has the ongoing goal of evaluating the current conditions of University facilities to look for opportunities for consolidation and operational efficiencies of space that create a better alignment and use of future capital dollars.

Originally opened in 1968, Waggoner Hall has served as one of the main science buildings for decades for Western Illinois students. The committee determined that bringing Waggoner Hall up to current standards would cost more than $44 million.

In the coming weeks, we will clarify and announce where departments and academic program functions will be located in the future. Likewise, larger strategic planning for additional building changes on the Macomb campus are underway. We will do our best to work with the WIU community as we progress on these changes.
