Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
There is chatter coming out of Springfield calling for a overhaul of the state university system. Instead of 9 separate Boards of Trustees, there might be just one or two. Having a centralized operating system might be the best way to keep all current 12 state universities open. I suspect centraliz...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
The Western Board of Trustees is down to 2 members: one regular Trustee and the student Trustee. Representative Norine Hammond to Pritzker: Fill BOT vacancies, provide emergency funding to WIU. Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
I would suggest the administration positions for the chopping block. $175,620 VP-QC - at most, this should be a Dean's position, and certainly not a VP $142,800 Dean-Libraries - Dean's lead multiple departments that have faculty, this is a single department and its faculty do not teach $120,000 Chi...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
So what percent of the current + next FY $26M budget cuts does this personnel layoff acccount for? Surely not all of it. The article in the Dispatch-Argus article (referenced above) mentioned: "With these layoffs and other cost-cutting measures, Western is anticipating saving $20 million durin...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
They have already changed this press release apparently, dropping the first interim. Gee, you think 6+years for Kathy Neumann, the still Interim Provost and Academic Vice President. Thomas makes his bud Ron Williams, VPSS soon after being named Interim, but also, Kathy lingers, perhaps because she h...

Re: WIU eliminating funding for WIUM/WIUW (our local public radio station)
Just like the state's education system (or systems), the Illinois public radio and TV offerings are a freaking mishmash of stations that are not funded as a unit and certainly do not work together to achieve common goals for the good of the entire state. How many of us old-timers grew up watching I...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
Looks like the BOT has already decided that LEJA, Nursing, Supply Chain, Honors, and Engineering are the future. To grow those programs, except for LEJA, will be difficult and expensive. Nursing faculty are almost impossible to find. Nearly every university in the United States is looking for nursin...

Re: Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff
I believe EIU's freshman class last year was less than 640 students. For Fall 2017, EIU had 950 full-time freshmen and 632 part-time freshmen. Total = 1,582. Source: https://www.eiu.edu/ir/fa2017.pdf You're counting apples and oranges here. We're talking about NEW freshmen. The total number of fres...
