Greg Naumann has been the Swimming & Diving Head Coach for 10 years. Looks like he must be leaving.

Must have already left as he doesn't show on the current Men's or Women's Swimming and Diving rosters, just a Grad Asst for Diving and a different Grad Asst for Swimming - same 2 on both Men's and Women's

I know they went down this road once and there was a big uproar, but I would like to see them just drop the swimming program.

Why? It's relatively inexpensive and we do a reasonably good job.

I can't imagine it being inexpensive, but maybe it is and yes I guess they have done better recently.

From the FY17 Report on the Athletics website https://goleathernecks.com/documents/20 ... t_FY17.pdf

Men's Swimming and Diving - 16 athletes, with expenses of $120,326
Women's Swimming and Diving - 16 athletes, with expenses of $113, 826
That is a total of 32 athletes and $234,152 in expenses ($7,317/athlete) - 2nd only to Track&Field in cost per athlete - ergo, my comment about Swimming & Diving being relatively inexpensive.

Men's and Women's Basketball - 36 athletes and $2,254,818 in expenses ($62,634/athlete)
Men's and Women's Golf - 21 athletes and $458,170 in expenses ($21,818/athlete)
Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country - 113 athletes and $574,426 in expenses ($5,083/athlete)
Men's and Women's Soccer - 67 athletes and $904,789 in expenses ($13,504/athlete)
Baseball & Softball - 52 athletes and $1,030,946 in expenses ($19,826/athlete)
Volleyball (women only) - 18 athletes and $605,745 in expenses ($33,652/athlete)
Football (men only ) - 106 athletes and $3,322,023 in expenses ($31,340/athlete

Idk where in the budget the upkeep/maintenance of the pool is...whether that's a "Department of Kinesiology" expense, or if it's split with Athletics and/or other groups that use it (SCUBA?....Military Science?)
Beyond that, there can't really be that much in the way of expenses. Transportation to away meets is probably the vast majority of it.
I don't know for sure what we paid Coach Naumann, since his name doesn't appear on the last appropriated budget: http://wiu.edu/Budget/budget_pdfs/FY19% ... d%20IB.pdf
Athletics is on page 35 and 36 of the PDF. There's nobody named Naumann, and no title with "Swimming" or "Diving" in the name.
Although this site says he made just under $40k in 2017: https://salary.bettergov.org/person/gre ... -64d992df/

He also received the Summit League Men's S&D Coach of the Year award in February: https://goleathernecks.com/news/2019/2/ ... mance.aspx

Still haven't heard anything about where he went...whether he's coaching somewhere else, or staying in the area but just found another job in another industry, or what.

Softball job is quickly moving forward! ;) jc
I was searching online, trying to see if I could find any softball coaching rumors and I saw a posting for the WIU softball job and the post date was like Mid-September (can't remember the exact date), which seems odd, so I'm wondering if for some reason they had to repost the job.

Kudos to this site (swimswam.com), they are all over this story. I'm sure there are legal reason why they wouldn't comment when asked his employment status with the university, but not sure why they couldn't just confirm he was no longer the swim coach. Instead they had to file the Freedom of Info thing, which granted they probably would of done anyway.
