WIU is on spring break this week, and while we haven't announced anything related to closing campus for an extra week or going online-only yet, I fully expect we'll hear something today.
In the meantime, you can keep up on the situation (as it applies to Western) here: http://www.wiu.edu/vpas/risk_management ... /index.php
So far, I believe U of I, ISU, NIU, and SIU (of the large public universities) are all doing some combination of extending spring break and/or going to online-only classes for at least a few weeks.

While there are no probable or confirmed cases of the Coronavirus at Western Illinois University, there are confirmed cases in Illinois. In an effort to keep our University community safe, particularly following Spring Break travel, all University classes are canceled Saturday-Friday, March 14-20. Classes will resume in an alternative format Saturday, March 21, 2020 and will continue in that format until at least April 3, 2020.

Spring Break at Eastern Illinois University is next week (March 15-21).
Eastern Provost Jay Gatrell said in an emailed statement to the campus community that students should bring all class supplies, notes, laptops, and other “necessary academic resources and materials” with them as they leave for spring break on Friday.
He said this is just a precaution to “allow students to support learning at a distance, if needed, after the spring break period.”
However, he said the university will remain open, including residence halls, cafeterias, and other services. Classes may just be offered online instead of in classrooms.

Northeastern Illinois University's Spring Break, which is scheduled to start on March 16, will be extended a second week through March 29. Also during this time, faculty will develop alternate modes of course delivery, as appropriate, to replace face-to-face instruction. At the current time, the University has no plans to close.
These extended spring breaks will have an impact on university towns when it comes to the upcoming Census.

Western should NOT be promoting the halls will be open. All it takes is one infected person to infect the entire building and then we will have disaster.

I wonder if this will delay the coaching search

They're going to have them open, but really just for the people that can't go home (like international students, for example). They're encouraging everyone who can stay home to do so until further notice.Tere North wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 12:19 pm Western should NOT be promoting the halls will be open. Where did the international students go over Spring Break. They rented rooms in Olsen if they weren't staying with friends. One residence hall is far different than all the residence halls.ST_Lawson wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 2:17 pmThey're going to have them open, but really just for the people that can't go home (like international students, for example). WIU to extend Spring Break and move all classes to “alternative format”.
