OVC-BigSouth looks to be a crap shoot this year.  No teams are trending favorably from what I see.

watched most of the game on ESPN+.  Hard to find lots of positives other then it was a 6 point game in the 4th.  Irvin has accounted for 6-7 tds over the past 2 games but it feels like our offense leaves a lot out there.  I like the RB Holman feel like he might be an upgrade over Smith but other than that offensive personnel lacks the big time playmaking guys from '24 at QB and WR.  Defense feels similar to '24 with lots of explosives all over the field.  The EWU QB was very inaccurate but managed to toss some up for huge plays and killed us with his feet.  The lack of return game on ST and the inability to cover kicks is alarming.  We have the ball down 21-17 with 2 mins to go in the 1st half with what could have been a go ahead drive and all of a sudden a huge punt return sets up a walk in EWU td and we're down 27-17 at half.  EWU looked like a lower tier Big Sky team.

Eastern Washington’s offense breaks out to beat Western Illinois 52-31.

I was NOT impressed. I watched on ESPN+ but listened to the radio and it sounded like the officiating was terrible. The taunting bugged me since I had seen the little "eagle flap" all night.

I haven't watched EIU this year, but according to last week's game they apparently have a proficient passer in their QB. How do you guys think we will stack up against them? I'm still concerned with defense and special teams - they really let us down at EWU.

I wouldn't feel bad losing to Eastern Washington they won the FCS national championship in 2010 and were runner up in 2018.

Yeah, but it's been a few years since then and this EWU team is not that EWU team. We were regularly making the playoffs and ranked #2 at one point, but those days are long past.

Last year's EWU team finished 4-8 overall, 3-5 in the conference (same record that we had) and lost to non-scholarship Drake. The Big Sky is a tougher conference than the OVC, so their 3-5 looks a little better than ours, but they are not expected to compete for a playoff spot this year either.

Not that it matters one iota but, I know the 'Necks were ranked #1 for one week(1-AA). I feel like it was the Season we beat Eastern Michigan and hung with BCS National Champion LSU for 3 quarters in Death Valley or whatever they called it.  I'm probably mistaken however, I seem to recall that WIU allowed LSU the least amount of points of anybody they faced that year! Does that translate to WIU was LSU's toughest game? Maybe. Ok, I remember, It was 2003. I may have exaggerated tiny bit but, yeah I think that was tge season we made it to #1.

Super relevant, since most on the current roster weren't even born. Hey I'm still celebrating the '85 Bears!
