New turf for WIU’s football field.

New synthetic turf will be installed at Hanson Field.

Six companies submitted bids for the project. WIU’s Board of Trustees approved the low bid of $508,930 from Sprinturf, LLC.

Trustees said they want to ensure safety for student-athletes. The current turf lasted 14 years, exceeding its warranty by several years.

The replacement project is scheduled to begin on April 27, 2026 and be completed by the end of June.
