Matt Brown at Extra Points write an article a few days ago that listed the majority of DI programs and what they spend on basketball, as well as showing what the costs were per win (this was for the 2024/25 season): https://www.extrapointsmb.com/p/here-s- ... ch-madness
For reference, WIU spent $1.375 million, which amounted to $152,861 per win (9 wins) that season.

I can't say I know the numbers.....but at least at D1 the university the program has opportunities for money games to assist the program costs.
There are no money games for D2 and NAIA. If they were to consider a drop in level.....the university has no money games to help basketball or football, and the programs will not be able to financially exist. Might as well shut down sports as being D1 is really one of the main reasons all sports are able to survive. Nobody cares about D2 or NAIA, otherwise the money would be there.
