Really enjoying the countdown but, went to the scrimmage last night and was very impressed. 1st team offense moved ball quickly and effectively. Granted several members of 1st team D not in but loved the tempo and pace of offense. Heard many positive remarks around field on how far ahead team is over last year. A great vibe for the countdown. Go Necks!!

Are we going to be treated with weekly installments of the Bob Nielson Show again this year? That would really suck if not. Hope they kick it up a notch and do some live streaming this year.
Embrace the pace of the race.

#11 is Jr. RB Kyle Hammonds from Solon, OH (a suburb of Cleveland). Hammonds transferred to Western from Ohio University a year ago. As a sophomore, he was the #3 RB behind Baker and Watson, and was the #2 kick returner behind Antoine Ford. Hammonds averaged 22.4 yards per kick return on 10 catches, with a long of 44 yards.

Image days until Leatherneck Football!

#10 is Sr. Defensive Back Marquette Privott. This will be Privott's second season with the Leathernecks, having started with Harper College (Palatine, IL), moved to College of DuPage after Harper dropped their football program, and then came to Western for his last two years of eligibility. Privott played in 8 games last year.

Image days left (single digits...wohoo!)

#9 is Quadarias Mireles, a Junior WR from Delray Beach, FL, by way of two seasons at Hinds Community College and one redshirt season at Ole Miss.
Mireles was a very highly rated JUCO prospect coming out of CC and should help strengthen our already deep receiving corps.

Another feature I'm going to do from now until the season opener is to run down the players we have at each position, one per day. I'll set up separate threads for those, in case people would like to discuss the various positions.
It'll just be a quick rundown with a few details to use as kinda a "refresher" course.
Here's the schedule that I plan to use:
19th - QB (expect this post within the next hour)
20th - RB
21st - WR
22nd - TE
23rd - OL
24th - DL (including DE)
25th - LB
26th - DB
27th - K/P

Only Image days left until the 2014 season kicks off.

#8 is Junior DB Luis Sharpe from Phoenix, AZ.
Sharpe played 2 seasons at Glendale CC and will have 2 years of eligibility for the Leathernecks.
His father played 13 years in the NFL (for the STL/AZ Cardinals) and was selected to the Pro Bowl three times.

Image Days until Leatherneck Football (that's 1 week from tonight!!!)

#7 is Sophomore WR Lance Lenoir, Jr. from Crete, IL
Last season, Lenoir was part of a group of three receivers that started every game and all averaged between 38 and 41 yards per game. Lenoir finished the season with 489 yards receiving and 7 TDs (both of which lead the team). What was even more impressive is that he did it as a true freshman, catching balls thrown by a redshirt freshman.

The college football season technically starts this Saturday, but it's Image days until Leatherneck Football.

#6 is Redshirt Freshman QB Rhys Gervais from Puyallap, WA.
Redshirted last year, this will be Rhys's first season getting on the field in a game situation. As I discussed on the review of the QBs, most likely both he and QB Devin O'Hara will get some time in as backups so that the coaches can decide who the primary backup should be.
Rhys comes from an athletic family, with a father who played Div. III collegiate football, brother who plays collegiate baseball, and another relative who was a QB at Oregon State.

#5 is Senior DB Martinez Davis from Madisonville, KY
An exciting Defensive Back to watch, Davis had 3 interceptions last year, one of which was run back for a TD (the third of his career, a Western record). He also had 7 pass break-ups (team best) and recorded 50 tackles.

Just Image days left.

#4 is Senior DB Jonathon Rollins from Miramar, FL
Going into his senior year, Rollins has seen playing time in every game he's been available for from the start of his freshman season. He started in one game his Freshman year, but then every game his Sophomore and Junior seasons. Last season, Rollins was fourth on the team with 66 tackles. He also had two interceptions, three pass break-ups, one forced fumble and 4 tackles for a loss.
