long overdue, wonder what actually happened given that it's been an open secret that he would be retiring sooner than later

I disagree. I think he did very well given the sinkhole he took over.

I thought he did a good job also, considering what he had to work with and seemed to be content and happy to be at WIU. I did see people on Twitter ripping him over the sanctions that WIU got for ineligible athlete being allowed to play.

I saw on Twitter, 26 D1 schools are now looking for an AD. Not sure who would want to be an AD in the current college environment. So much BS to have to navigate thru.

I still want to know WHY, though. Is it because he is close to retirement, or what?

Yeah, I would not like having to deal with the state of college sports today. Especially if you are one of the "have nots" (which we apparently are, sad to say).

It sounds like he was planning on retiring in the next year or so, but this still seems unexpected. You'd imagine if it was just that, it would have been announced that he was retiring at the end of this month or something, not immediately. I'm hoping it wasn't due to health reasons.

I appreciate the link, but when I read it all I hear is Charlie Brown's teacher going "whaaaaa, whaaaa, whaaaa". Word salad at its finest.
