Easy vs. Tough non con sched

That's always an interesting question to think about.

We know that we're always (for the forseeable future at least) going to have a tough conference schedule, just by nature of being in the MVFC. But, do we go with a difficult non-conference schedule also, hoping that either:
1. The tough games to start the season prepare us well for the conference and we end up doing well the rest of the year....or
2. We end up doing well enough against one of the toughest schedules in the FCS (or, like last year, the #1 toughest schedule) that even with 6 wins, we were able to get one of the last spots into the playoff.

Or, do we go with an easy non-conference schedule, racking up a couple of early wins before getting into conference season and hopefully pulling out maybe 5 of the 8 conference games to end up with a total of 7 wins and a likely spot in the playoffs?

I don't know the right answer, although personally I lean towards having a tough schedule...we get better prepared for the conference...and, as they say "to be the best, you gotta beat the best". Then again, a winning record looks more impressive in terms of getting casual fans and students to games early in the season as well as giving the team a bit of a confidence boost.

There's definitely arguments for both.

I would like Western to schedule the following for a home and home:

Colgate, (still bitter about the Snow Bowl)
Montana (Every thing Montana does is as good as it gets....save for some weak scheduling)
Villanova (Name recognition, even if it is for the sport that uses a round ball)
Western Carolina (silly, just like the idea of Western vs Western)
Ivys.....Ivys are lame, dont want to participate in playoffs don't want to travel out of New England.

For a less challenging match up but great name recognition for the area I'd like to see a Home game with Drake.

What do you think Nation?

We played Drake a couple of years ago i remember in 2009 we almost played villanova which was matt szcur who now plays for the cubs senior year but we lost to appalachian st.

Drake in 2014 of course. I'm showing the side effects of my elective Labotomy procedure.

Matt Szczur (think Ceasar) was a stud. I remember watching him play with the Peoria Chiefs before the Chiefs switched back to Cards affiliation.
