SIUE hasn't either even though they haven't been D1 long.leatherface wrote:Instead of starting a new post, I'll ask quick here. Isn't the Western men the only D-1 men basketball in Illinois to never make it to the men's basketball "big dance" yet? The women have been there-can't remember when.
The Women went to the NCAA Tournament in 1995. Regina Miller was the coach.leatherface wrote:Isn't the Western men the only D-1 men basketball in Illinois to never make it to the men's basketball "big dance" yet? The women have been there-can't remember when.
Actually Northwestern has never made it either. They're one of 5 of the "original" DI teams that have never made it:leatherface wrote:Instead of starting a new post, I'll ask quick here. There's just a bit over 50 current DI teams that have never made it, with Northwestern, SIU-E, and WIU being the ones from Illinois. There are 351 teams playing Division I basketball, 160 of which have been in the NCAA's top tier since it was formed before the 1948-49 season. Of those original members, five — Army, The Citadel, Northwestern, St. Francis of Brooklyn and William and Mary — have never played in its signature event, the NCAA tournament.
