I'm not saying there was anything underhanded, just that they do bring up some valid points in regards to players being recruited only to be (possibly) left coach-less. They signed in good faith, and it sucks that this could happen - not just here, but anywhere, now that we have the early signing dates. I know it could happen even with signing dates in Feb. but for the most part open positions and such have been filled by then so it seems less likely.

My hope is that if Charlie Fisher does leave, that the university does everything it can to keep the rest of the staff and promote from within. I'm sure the kids have talked to more coaches than just Coach Fisher - if we can at least do everything we can to keep the consistency with the coaching staff they did meet with it will be a help, IMHO.

I think ASU Rivals may have gotten word of an offer, and made it out to be a hire. And WIU is now seeing what kind of package they can put together to keep him. But you would think that we would be hearing something soon from either side right?

You would think, but who knows? Seems they'd want to get this cleared up one way or the other as soon as possible.

I think Tanney tweeting about it is interesting. I read it as they are trying to get an offer together. I dont remember him tweeting anything when all the Nielson rumors blew up. Hope they can keep Fisher around but cant blame a guy for going after a pay raise. Especially in sunny AZ. Pure speculation.

Yeah he was out of the country when Nielsen left as well

No sooner do I post about the schools be quiet and Tanney releases a statement. Hopefully this rumors matter has a happy ending for us.

The silence is not surprising at all. Nobody can comment on these moves until a contract is signed. What is surprising is Tanney's statement. Rare for a program to make a statement like this, which means where there is smoke there's fire. How I read into it, is Fisher has been offered the job, has not signed, and WIU is working with Fisher to restructure a deal to keep him in Macomb.

If he doesn't leave this year, the rumors will come back next year and the year after. Coaches at his level don't stick around for long. We're lucky to have him while he's still here.
