The scope of IBHE is too broad (public, private, for profit, not for profit, ...) to have a significant impact on the future of public higher education.

But it could be the driver for consolidating, if not the publics to less that 12, at least the programatic offerings and Board control so it's not everyone trying to do everything. Privates already manage to find their niche as they have to.

Physician Robert Marshall pushed his plan to divide Illinois into three separate states: Chicago, its suburbs, and downstate.

In other words, since our program is suffering enrollment, we want to force students in more successfully enrolled programs to have to take courses in our program to build up our numbers.

If you are going to change major and minor requirements, I say, and seriously, make some real headlines by doing away with all current minor offerings and mandate a new one for all students. Lets call it the "Common Sense and Critical Thinking" minor. Good Gawd, we have a shortage of that right now in this country.

The spring semester enrollment numbers are in at Eastern Illinois, and their overall student enrollment is up.

Overall spring enrollment went up at EIU from 6,673 students in Spring 2017 to 7,016 in Spring 2018, making for a five percent increase according to tenth day numbers.

This includes increases of 13 to 24 for first-time freshmen students, 153 to 192 for first-time domestic graduate students, and 260 to 1,335 undergraduate transfer students.

One area that did go down at EIU is new international students, both undergraduate and graduate. The main issue in this area is that students are getting their visas denied--particularly from India.

Unofficially, WIU's numbers look to be down about 9.19% from 9,469 in Spring 2017 to around 8,599 in Spring, 2018.

As with the Fall numbers, it definitely looks like EIU is doing something right, something that WIU has not yet capitalized on.
