The only thing typical is Western's attitude, ignore the problem and it will go away.wiu712 wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2018 9:34 am WIU reports spring student loss ‘typical’ with fall graduation, other factors.

The Civic Federation has recommended creating a commission to explore consolidating governance of state universities.
The Civic Federation is also in favor in ending duplication of programs at the state universities. They also say that the State should consider the closure or consolidation of campuses: "Particularly weak have been Northeastern, Southern, Western and Eastern Illinois Universities, and Chicago State University."
Close some state universities? Consider it, watchdog says.

Illinois is awesome. I say burn 'em all down. No more universities. Illinois will export all of its students and import all of it's technical and intellectual know how from States that have 'em some good learnin.
Illinois, lets chant we're #50, we're #50. Could be worse if Puerto Rico was a State we would drop to 51.

Illinois Public Universities Struggle With Enrollment.
From the 2-10-18 Associated Press:
Some Illinois lawmakers are looking to find solutions for higher education declining enrollment and financial concerns as more graduating high school students are enrolling out of state.
Figures from the Illinois State Board of Education show 46 percent of 2016 Illinois high school graduates who enrolled in a four-year university went out of state. That's compared with 2002, when 29 percent enrolled in another state, The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reported .
Al Bowman, executive director of the state board and a former president of Illinois State University, said the state "has had a history of out-migration for many, many years.
"The difference is it has accelerated during recent years, particularly during the budget impasse" when the state went without a full-year budget in fiscal years 2016 and 2017 and higher education saw significant funding cuts.
State Sen. Chapin Rose, R-Mahomet, sounded an alarm recently at a McLean County Republican Party breakfast, saying higher education needs to be retooled. Rose and state Rep. Dan Brady, R-Bloomington, are proposing a bill that calls for a comprehensive overhaul of higher education. It includes a uniform admissions application for all public universities and automatic admission to an "academically appropriate" public university for high school students with a grade B or better average to a study of merit-based financial aid.
"The idea was someone had to get a plan out there . to get the discussion going," Brady said.
ISU President Larry Dietz said although he might not agree with everything the bill includes, "nothing is off the table."
Overall enrollment at the Illinois' public universities is also declining. They dropped from 204,781 in fall 2009 to 188,405 in fall 2016.
Governor Bruce Rauner will give the annual Budget Address on February 14.

There are so many factors that go into the State of the State.
So, I'm going to break the "gentelmen's rule" Rauner is inefectual at governing.
He was very very smart and good at aspects in his profesional life/career.
Listen, my Mother and Father in Law are part of the problem, She gets top Masters pay and He gets Doctorate pay.
My Father in law is 76 and he started drawing from the State at 53. I will not tell you how much they make but from my stand point it is a lot.
Illinois is so so so so so so very broken.
