Updates to faculty layoff plan and other stuff

WIU's student is 12-month, not just the academic term, as it covers break periods as long as you are enrolled for the upcoming term.

Anyone know if it is effectively mandatory at those schools, like it is at Western?

The 12-month insurance cost at Eastern Illinois is $307.

Eastern Illinois requires that all students who enroll in 9 or more on-campus hours, all Graduate As­sistants under contract to the University, and all Inter­national students enrolled in 3 or more on-campus hours, be covered by health insurance. Students enrolled part-time with 5 or more hours may apply to purchase coverage.

Covered by health insurance, but their specific plan instead of or in addition to a personal plan?? Even if required, it is still far better that Western's, i.e., only 1/4th the cost. How does Western get away with this?

I will go out on a limb to wager my last bottom dollar that those 18% hitting the dining halls for a good breakfast tend to be more successful in their classroom and/or athletic endeavors.

My two cents is that this effort shows more of a "no confidence" for the Union leadership that it does for WIU administration.

Western is in the midst of a Labor-Management dispute which has to be a drag on enrollment.

Then you factor in the news that the Corbin-Olson dining center will stop serving breakfast next year, and you have to wonder if the university is moving in the right direction to attract and retain students.

The freshman dorms (Bayliss, Henninger, Tanner) have only been serving dinner for the past few years. Students wanting breakfast or lunch have to go to either Thompson or Corbin-Olson.

Freshmen enrollment for Fall 2018 could be lower than this year's freshman class of 1,206--which itself was a big drop from previous years.

Wow. First year students are probably the ones most in need of breakfast, assuming they can drag themselved out of bed in time. I guess if you are a parent sending your kid off to college these days, you need to send 'em off with a couple of these, just in case. Put a 2x12 between 'em, you gotta desk.
