Never fear, Leatherneck Fans, Colonel Rock III will still be making some appearances to teach Colonel Rock IV all that he knows to know about being Western's official mascot.

Yup, he's a good dog, super friendly, loves kids. He's just getting up there in age (average lifespan of a bulldog is 8-10 years) and it's time to step back and let a young pup take over the demanding public appearances and travel schedule.

If he's still showing up occasionally at things in the fall, you should stop by and give him a scratch behind the ears.

Definitely! Just curious, how is he cared for? Does he kennel somewhere on campus?

Colonel Rock III lives with Joe Roselieb, the Director of Residential Facilities at Western.

So, has anyone donated to the mascot memorial project? I keep trying to donate, and it kicks me out. Wondered if something weird was going on.

Well, some people are, it's up to over $22k at this point. If you're having problems, I'd contact the Foundation office: http://www.wiu.edu/giving/
