Illinois’ public universities have taken a 48% funding cut since 2000.

The proposed Fiscal Year 2020 budget makes some progress, but falls short of the funding levels before the 2016–17 budget crisis.

Times are tough everywhere in higher education.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario that is more damaging than faculty approving a vote for strike when the University is on the brink of going under.

Guess what? People get laid off at State Farm and Caterpillar.

Selfish entitled elitists holding a damaged University hostage will not entice students to want to choose this University or enroll in your class.

Why would I even consider attending a University that is so out of step with society and our new normal.

So according to the chart posted by 712 the University that needs the money the least is receiving aprox. 12% more than the other State universities.

Essentially, it's a step in the right direction (increase from last year), but for all of higher ed in the state, it's lower (both in actual dollars and in inflation-adjusted dollars) than what higher ed was being funded at in 2000. Back then, state higher ed (total) received $2.152B ($3.719B inflation-adjusted). The proposed 2020 budget has state higher ed receiving $1.919B, just over half (inflation-adjusted) what universities were receiving in 2000.
