Schools dropping sports

We aren't the only ones out there dropping sports (or "suspending" S&D).

A lot of school are dropping at least one sport many schools multiple sports. Baseball seems to be the sport dropping the most which makes sense outside of football it is the next biggest men’s only sport.

Financial troubles have finally reached the Power Five conferences on Wednesday when Stanford announced it would discontinue 11 programs following the 2020-21 academic year.

The school will cut men’s volleyball, wrestling, field hockey, and men’s and women’s fencing, as well as six programs that are not NCAA-sponsored championship sports — lightweight rowing, men’s rowing, co-ed and women’s sailing, squash, and synchronized swimming.

After next year, 240 athletes will no longer be able to compete for Stanford. The 22 coaches who lead the cut programs will be forced to continue their careers elsewhere. Twenty support staff positions will also be eliminated.

I normally wouldn't mention it, but I know that we've gotten a number of players over the years from teams in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, including players like John Brunner and Justin Nutof who got their starts at Butler CC.

Also, Lincoln Christian University (also NAIA in Lincoln, IL) has announced they will be doing a major restructuring, significantly cutting back on the in-person/on-campus classes and events at their campus, including dropping all varsity athletics: https://www.lcuredlions.com/article/847

There are lots of Lincolns aorund the country. I wonder how many times a kid arrived in this country headed for Lincoln College (or University) and mistakenly ended up on the wrong campus. Excellent location, middle of the state, just off I-55. Something can surely fill the void.

What is filling the void in Carthage? There is no back fill for this. Kids aren't drawn in like years past to a tier two public, let alone a dicey menagerie of used to be/want to be colleges that cost too G*d D*mn much money!
