Still in the approval stages, but if it goes through their state house approved, then SCSU could shut down for the at least the 2015-2016 school year, possibly longer.

Here's some more discussion of it and how it might relate to football at the school: http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthr ... Unitl-2017
Since it would include shutting down all athletics for that time frame as well.

SCSU is an HBCU (Historically Black College/University) that currently plays Div I sports (FCS for football) in the MEAC.

Low end of the bell curve not a good place to be but somebody has to be there. If they make a return in sports, it will probably be at the DII level. South Carolina has more DII universities than DI and some pretty good ones at that. My cousin-in-law is president of Lander in Greenwood.

I don't understand the rationale behind this one or two year closure.

How that will solve any financial problems ????

Well, some of the discussion that I've read is that there's so much corruption and stuff and so much money is unaccounted for that this is the only way that the state can essentially "fire" the entire administration and start fresh. If the school does reopen though, I see them likely being integrated into the U of SC system...(USC Orangeville maybe?) and being Div. II if they choose to do athletics at all. Downscale, become more focused, shared resources with the "main campus" in the system (U of South Carolina), new administration (hopefully eliminating some of the corruption)....it should help.

Also, the graduation rate was around 14%, so there were other issues to address as well.
