On the plus side, the alumni pre-game affair at Fatty''s was good (those huge steakburgers were yummy).  During the game, that sun was baking those of us on the east side pretty good and it no doubt took its toll on the field as well as our defense seemed to be forever on the field during that 2nd quarter. Their QB got into a good comfort zone then (did we ever get a touch on him?).  The NIU fan sitting directly behind us won the loudest fan award for his  "FIRST DOWN" calls when the PA guy mandated them.  He was so loud that my wife had to turn down her hearing aid.  BTW, he was the same guy that commented before the game that the 3 female officials on the field were there because of a DEI hire.  So, the wife and I decided at half time that we had enough, headed for home, and listened to the rest game on the internet radio.

Saw some rays of hope on the field. Lamb had a decent day.  Tate will break one before year is done getting all that runback practice.  Our lines are big but seem to be a little slow, maybe the heat a factor, not sure.  Our DBs missed a few tackles if they were in the neighborhood to do so.  We wont know too much until after week 3 IMHO.

Onward and upward.

This is just a shame.

The underlying sad part is that NIU isn't even really that good......I have a feeling its going to be a long season. Hoping that I am wrong, but time will tell.

They are FBS and they did win a bowl game last year (Camellia Bowl, 21-19 win over Arkansas State).
Meanwhile we're in the beginning stages of (hopefully) a rebuild. Honestly, the fact that we got to 15 points against an FBS team is pretty surprising to me. I thought we moved the ball fairly well early in the game (until the heat and better depth started to catch up to us), and the kicker (Chadha) did well...missed a 38-yard FG, but hit from 44 and 46 and an XP. He also averaged 63.8 yards per kickoff with 3 TBs. Obviously a lot to work on, but what I saw in the first quarter looked a lot better than anything I saw after the Lindenwood game last year (that was the third game).

Thanks. I eventually saw that on the OVC interview - still would be nice to know who's out and why. I know coach said they were still mixing things up, so that adds to the confusion for people like me, lol!
