Ah yes, just more feel-good talk.  Absolutely nothing will get done. 

Has the university not already paid outside firms hundreds of thousands of dollars to figure out how to improve WIU? What were their recommendations? Did the “leadership” follow through with any of their ideas.

Yep, comical that Mindrup is likely going to become the president without a thorough search. The university desperately needs an outside voice to right the ship, not a legacy hire that’s enabled the present state of the university.

Yep, comical that Mindrup is likely going to become the president without a thorough search. The university desperately needs an outside voice to right the ship, not a legacy hire that’s enabled the present state of the university. 

 

Actually, Dr. Mindrup has taken action as the last President and Dr. Thomas refused to do.

The BOT should have hired Dr. Abraham after he got the ship righted as interim, but no, they had to go old-school that became a disaster. 

Two BAD Presidents in row with two interims trying to do it right. 

But, realistically, it is the BOT who should be held accountable. Their primary role is to ensure the fiscal standing of the university, yet they handled that miserably, approving major deficit spending year after year. They should be FIRED.

What is the difference between this and what Jack Thomas was trying to do? I can understand it if the university holds strict standards for "under served" students, but I don't see any point in just adding kids because they have been "under served". They still need to be ready to uphold their end of the deal - attend classes, get passing grades, and be an asset to the school. Funding kids who don't know how to study and go to college is just throwing money down the toilet, IMO. Are they proposing an "Introduction to College" course of study, perhaps?

That's great. How long has it been around? I just don't want to see Western take another nose dive like it did when Thomas was working "his program". It isn't good for WIU or Macomb.
