I think it is pretty sad, embarassing, etc... that Omaha got to the NCAA Tournament before Western.

Omaha became eligible D1 in 2015-16 season, WIU became D1 in 1981-82 season.

I had the Bears in '85, Cubs in '16. That and a few good years for Leatherneck football in the late 90s an early 00's is about all I've seen for the teams I'm a fan of.

Omaha has a significantly better arena, unfortunately.

I think the move to the OVC will get us to the NCAA Tournament one day.

Omaha may have a better basketball arena, but their campus is nothing to brag about. It just appears like a large community college, and doesn't appear to have really any college atmosphere. Their hockey team on the other hand is a bit different. However, college hockey has a different dynamic all together.

My prediction is Western will never make the NCAA tournament. I predict in five years or so WIU's enrollment will be less than 3,000. WIU will transition to D-II GLVC.

I think there is a strong possibility that U of I gobbles up WIU and the once proud Western Illinois University ceases to exist as an independent entity. Western will become  University of Illinois Macomb, drop football and more or less resemble UIS. WIU becomes UIM.

Sad? Undoubtedly. U of I would get a nice new 120 Million performing arts center out of the deal.

Matt Brown tweeted several D1 schools are considering dropping out this summer, mostly in the northeast.

I’m confident we’re not in this wave. Hopefully we can make one NCAA Tournament at some point before a future wave hits us.
