Western baseball did make it to the Summit League Championship game last year.
On April 1, Western baseball beat #24-ranked Iowa 16-5.

bb31- I don't know what WIU expects from the BB program. If they see it as a student recruiting tool, this losing record might be over looked. If the new AD wants to be competitive in all sports, and strive for excellence, then this overall and conference record isn't acceptable. Not too many folks in business or other endeavors would be allowed to stay in their job if they had such a low record of success.
As with the other sports, it can't be easy to bring in true D1 athletes to Macomb.

Great catch. Damn shame he didn't get some grass stains for his efforts.wiu712 wrote:Amazing catch by Western's Brent Turner from Tuesday night's game at Iowa.

The record is a bit hard to judge. The team will always face teams that for the first 20 games of the season get the chance to play outdoors 12 months year around. So any wins over that stretch are a positive and generally serve to prepare us for conference play. Conference play is what truly matters and more of a measure to compare how the team does. It is fun to see this is the only mens teams that can truly ever hang with a powerhouse program from the BIG 10 or BIG 12. Cant think of a football or basketball game we have won against a nationally ranked program, and we have done it through the baseball program on a semi-regular basis since the early 2000'sleatherface wrote:bb31- I don't know what WIU expects from the BB program. We can't forget about Men's Soccer. Western beat the Wisconsin Badgers 1-0 in a game played a few weeks ago (April 25) in Macomb.Necks2003 wrote:This is the only men's team that can truly ever hang with a powerhouse program from the BIG 10 or BIG 12.

We compete on a much more even playing field in games not requiring size and pure athleticism.
Embrace the pace of the race.
