I know I saw this mentioned in another thread but I couldnt find it so I am starting a new one. Feel free to move.
I remember seeing he initially signed a 1 year contract worth 125,000 (which is insanely low). I read somewhere that it was supposed to just be to get him started and they would work out the multi year deal shortly after. Is that true? Did his deal ever get re-worked?
If it didnt then 2 questions.
1. Why would he take just a 1 year deal and have no real job security? Who would do that?
2. If that was the case would Mo have been involved in that in some way? I.E. let Billy have the job for a year, see how this Nebraska thing goes and re-evaluate after a year?
I know #2 sounds a little far fetched but if he is still sitting on that 1 year deal its just outrageous and baffling. You cant have a coach on a year to year contract at the D1 level..
Coach Billy Wright
The SDSU coaches are on one year deals. I am not certain of the history of this situation, but the rules for the university have not allowed multiple year contracts for the coaches. It does not seem to impair the stability of the MBB, WBB, or football coaches. Nagy has 19 years, Johnston has 14 years, and Stiegelmeier has 18 years. It is unusual, but it is not unworkable.
We will find out soon enough as the contract started last April so they will be making a decision soon. I doubt they would of done anything before the end of the basketball season even though one year is not going to really prove a coach, but it definitely didn't help Billy's case much this year.
One year does not necessarily prove a coach, but I saw regression during the course of the season, and so then I sit and try to look ahead, and if I see a team that receives less than stellar fan support, playing in what many consider to be a subpar D1 facility, then I at the very least turn to the coaching staff and hope that they have shown SOMETHING not only for the fan to look forward to, but for the prospective student athlete to want to come and be a part of. For the love of everything good and pure, someone please tell me what this program has going forward that can possibly encourage someone to come play here?

I given a lot of thought about this and this is my perspective (long time fan and followed basketball through the Kerwin, Thomas and Coach Mo eras):
1. To parody a quote from Hoosiers, "I'd think it would be a big mistake to let Coach Wright go...give him a chance." No one will dispute the fact it was a rough year, however:
-It was his first year as a head coach
-We were a young team
-Injuries were devastating to our team (we lost our two top freshmen, due to injury and illness)
2. Keep in mind, Coach Wright was hired late (some thought Coach Mo might even stay one more year) and recruiting was near impossible. I like his approach to recruiting the Midwest (I moved to Indiana almost 2 years ago and there is a LOT of basketball talent here, even at the Jr. High levels). We don't lose many players next year, so let's give him some time to see what he can do.
3. The record was disappointing but we were competitive early in the season (a play here and there and a healthy team and i think 3-5 more wins were possible). We also played a tougher schedule, which I have been advocating to do for years. Here was Coach Mo's record at Western:
2008–09 Western Illinois 9–20 6–12 T–8th
2009–10 Western Illinois 13–17 6–12 T–7th
2010–11 Western Illinois 7–23 2–16 9th
2011–12 Western Illinois 18–15 9–9 T–4th CBI First Round
2012–13 Western Illinois 22–7 13–3 T–1st CBI First Round
2013–14 Western Illinois 10–20 4–10 7th
I remember his 3rd year; I think we had about 7 players combine to miss 100+games; sound familiar?
When the team starts winning, attendance will pick up; I was in Grad School during the CBI years and I had never seen a Western Hall atmosphere like that, except for SuperSectionals.

The Summit's representative North Dakota State got a #15 seed and will play Gonzaga on Friday night.
That seems like a lower seed than usual for the Summit.
South Dakota State will play in the NIT. They will play at Colorado State on Wednesday night.
All 2015 NIT games will also include two experimental rules:
1. Teams will compete using a 30-second shot clock instead of the current 35-second shot clock.
2. The 31 games of the NIT will also have a four-foot restricted-area arc as opposed to the current three-foot arc.
IPFW will play in the CIT. They will play at Evansville on Wednesday night.
Oral Roberts will play in the CBI. They will host UC-Santa Barbara on Wednesday night.

This may be a repeat for some of you, but it showed on the twitter feed.
