Does Wifi work well in Hanson Field? If so, someone needs to periscope it to the rest of us. Actually, the weather here on east coast is going to be so bad the next five days, I might show up on Saturday just to get away from it. Current best air fare to STL is around $250 if I leave on Saturday morn. If I drive like a you know what out of you know where, I could probably get there around 1pm.ST_Lawson wrote:Couple of things. Also, 40 people signed up for the alumni band this year. Should be big, loud, and a lot of fun. Go hang out at the fence at the end of the halftime show to have the alumni blow your face off with "Georgia on My Mind".

In my experience, the wifi at Hanson Field is usually pretty "meh". Usually enough to check scores on ESPN, not well enough for any kind of streaming video. Streaming audio...depends on the day. I tried that at a game once, listening to the radio feed through the TuneIn app on my phone while watching the game. Made it about 3 minutes into the game...too much delay to be watching it live and listening streaming at the same time.

I have evaluated this weeks game and am now ready to predict the score. I am going with a 28-27 win by SIU. Tough call but I think field position and special teams will cost us, could easily go 28-27 us. 2 very evenly matched teams.

I hope your prediction is wrong, but certainly understand why you think special teams could cost WIU the victory. I'm going WIU 34 SIU 28 all three areas of the game will click Saturday.

Going to be a bit breezy on Saturday with winds out of NNE at 18mph. That could be a factor, especially on special teams. I always try to get to game early to see how the kickers (especially punters) are handling it. Some do it a lot better than others. If it is a real breezy day, the kicker(s) could be the game changer(s) with respect to field position.

WIU Homecoming ~ 50 years back

The players were smaller in size and numbers.
Pag's was a fixture on the square.
You could get your Tiparillos at the stadium.
The WIU Band honored "Rock" at halftime in his first year of retirement from WIU AD duty.

Looks like we won that game 20-7 en route to an overall 6-3 season and an Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Co-Championship (with that Northern Illinois team).sealhall74 wrote:#TBT

Looking at the notes for the game on Saturday to see if there was a little more insight on the matchup I saw something that really hit me and don't want to be a jerk about. Looking at the depth chart for Western it looks good as we list our 2-deep like all teams do prior to a game. EXCEPT when you get to Punter and Snapper, instead of a 1-2 you have 2 names and an OR. What is that all about. By this time you should have a 1 and 2, no wonder these kids struggle. Make a decision, commit to a kid. What do you have them tryout on Saturday Morning for the JOB????????.
This happens in almost all sports quite often. You see it often in pro sports when you have two players of similar skill they can switch off all the time depending on a week of practice or just how the coach feels the match up or timing works. Look at Ohio State they still list their QB position as a game time decision each week. That is the QB which one would think would be the most important position to have a clear starter, but they get by and keep winning this way. Chicago Cubs switch starters at positions each week based on match ups. Sometimes it is just you have two similar talents and one guy just is more fired up that week so they get start. I am sure it is tough on coach and kids, but its part of sports and competition.lovethenecks wrote:Looking at the notes for the game on Saturday to see if there was a little more insight on the matchup I saw something that really hit me and don't want to be a jerk about. Dear 812, I saw your reply and respectfully disagree with your response. That is never the case with a Punter or Long Snapper in the NFL because no teams carry more than one of each. It also never happens in college unless you have 2 guys that are shaky and not a dominate player at the position. Timing is everything in the Special Teams game and the other 10 players should be working with the 1st team guy all week. Don't make excuses for poor coaching it is not acceptable. Show me another team at the specialists 3 specialists position where they list an or at FCS or Higher
